by which i mean it's sunday now!! yay. strohl's been relatively absent even among their new spaces today, though he can eventually be found looking out at the void darkness from the windows of the gates, with his sword over his lap, absently running one hand down the scabbard, phone open on his lap.
his expression is best described as stormy - even stormier than you'd really expect for the situation at hand, but not necessarily attempting to scare off company, either. just lost in thought. ]
[ damn, imagine having facial expressions that people can read. i don't know if kate still has the helmet today so i guess she's out here without it now. she's also changed into some sweatpants and an ASS t-shirt.
with her "face" bare, she hesitates to approach... but after a few moments, she musters up the nerve to say something. ]
[ this sentence gave me psychic damage repeatedly thank you
it's actually the sight of the sooting that gets him to startle - by the time kate makes her way over, he's looking at her with an expression that's briefly just - stunned, like he's seen a ghost.
-- and then he stops. shakes his head. ]
... Sorry. [ voice a little rough. ] Sorry, you... my apologies. [ ough. ] Are... you alright, miss?
[ during the party, kate left very abruptly, but she didn't go far. there's a trail of smoke in the air that points right to where she's gone, and she can be found sitting out on the flight deck. her shoulders rise and fall as she takes deep, calming breaths. ]
[ it's hard to miss kate's sooting - she's a veritable stormcloud, so while strohl notes her making her exit, it takes him a little bit to come out and check on her!
when he does, he's got a water in hand, and he clears his throat when he comes in near enough, then comes to kneel down near where she's sitting. ]
Left in a bit of hurry, there. You alright, Kate...? Here.
man what an ending that was. by the end of it, strohl's out on the terrace, sitting in the closest possible thing they have to grass, looking out at the runaway. most excitingly, he has strohl jr here, who yawns cutely at his side and snuggles up as if he'd just had a very nice nap.
he glances up when he hears footsteps - shaken out of his thoughts, then dips his head. tired, but relatively even. ]
[ kate's changed into a new outfit, but even this one's already got a light dusting of soot on it. a faint haze of it trails along with her as she walks, limping slightly, to the terrace where at least the soot won't just stick to the ceiling. ]
strohl's kind of out today - standing in the aquarium area with his hands on his hips, looking up into the tanks. strohl jr is with him also, attempting to lick the glass of the fish tank because he's an investigator, or he's just an idiot. he glances over when he hears footsteps, though, and has a smile for kate! it's tired and a little grim, but nevertheless. ]
Quite the escalation. [ four... ] Are you holding up alright, Miss Kate?
[ yet another long week comes to a close - this time, strohl's sitting in the claires, staring at the display of friendship bracelets with a deep frown on his face. he feels... very goofy. but also. ]
...harder than it looks.
[ beside him, strohl jr happily squeaks at the sight of kate and trots over to greet her, rubbing up against her leg. ]
[ hi strohl, you can find kate in the escape room. the two of them run into each other in one of the dark halls of the mummy's tomb, and... woosh! a mysterious wind comes in, bringing a memory with it. ]
[ sometimes i forget that kate's canon is so fucked up and then things like this happen
ANYWAY. MY GOD. the trappings are familiar, at first, but two sentences into the letter kate reads and there's an anger already starting to bubble low in his stomach that only roils further the longer this goes on. that little girl is clearly someone that she'd met before, someone she knew, and the mindless, vapid response of a person turned to a - to a doll, really - puts an array of frustration and horror and sympathy across his expression at first, especially as kate tries to convince her otherwise.
as the memory ends, he exhales out a breath he didn't even realise he was holding, with a low: ] Bloody hell.
[ where does he even start - sharply, ] They're people, not tools - [ though that anger's not directed her way, so it immediately switches gears. ] Were you able to get her to snap out of it, Kate?
strohl's not out and about a lot today - however, strohl jr is trotting around and comes to greet kate when he sees her, immediately. strohl's seated, looking up at the departure screens, mouth pulled into a deep frown. he's still beat up to all hell, panda-eyed and all it has been A Couple Days. ]
Kate. [ looking up to spot her - his voice's soft, worried. ] That we will. How're you holding up...?
[ the callousness of the lord is unsurprising. that he manages to get the money and turn it around, to even throw it back in the man's face... that's the surprise. ]
Your people are refugees? [ a pause. ] ... Right, mentioned your homeland was attacked by a monster...
Miss Kate, have you a moment? I'm working to cobble together something for that mission we've all got for tomorrow and I thought you might be just the person to ask.
weekend 0....sunday!!
