[ it's hard to miss kate's sooting - she's a veritable stormcloud, so while strohl notes her making her exit, it takes him a little bit to come out and check on her!

when he does, he's got a water in hand, and he clears his throat when he comes in near enough, then comes to kneel down near where she's sitting. ]

Left in a bit of hurry, there. You alright, Kate...? Here.

[ she takes the water but doesn't drink from it. she just holds it in her hands. ]

I... yes. I think I just needed some air.

[ softly. he lets her take it, and regards her for a moment - keeping a safe distance away after, though there's clear worry on his face. ]

...Do you want me to leave you be? I can stand guard by the door, if you'd like.

... You don't need to leave. It's... not really the people that are the problem.

[ a little nod. he settles, with that, gently concerned, but intent to stay and help. ]

...Want to talk through it? Might help a bit, to get it off your chest.

[ she shifts a bit, running a hand through her hair. soot tumbles down from it, in addition to the steady stream that rises into the air. ]

... Everything from today... It's the same as what happened the day before I came here.

[ oh, honey... it catches his eye briefly, but his expression's soft, sympathetic. ]

Must've been a horrid case of deja vu, if that's the case. [ :( ] Was that at home? Or the other 'game'?

The gathering, the teams, the party, it's all the same.

Damn. [ softly - both in realization and in reaction of disbelief, an all-encompassing noise. ]

And the inherent danger of it all, too...?

[ yeah somehow a party doesn't seem like it triggers that kind of stress reaction otherwise. he winces a little as he says it, expression immediately sympathetic. ]

...Out of the frying pan and into the fire, in more ways than one. [ it's not fair - it never is. injustice as ever, to those who don't deserve it. the anger ebbs and flows, but he keeps it back behind a deeper frown, shaking his head. ]

I'm sorry, Kate. Know that means nothing, in the grand scheme of things, but - still.

[ she lifts her chin to look at him, but there's no reading her expression. ]

... I'll be all right. I just... wasn't ready to face it again so soon.
