anyway. he's calmed down from high key mother hen mode at this point which is good, although absolutely nothing about that is calming! at all! in fact he just makes a face ]
-- The one from Martira? That thing's supposed to be dead!
Well, it is a second time. [ important. he seems pretty chill all things considered? ] Probably we were going through your life. S'happened to me before.
[ that's something he definitely doesn't feel guilty about and will not feel guilty about forever! it's fine! strohl winces at the thought, grimacing as the memories of martira roll across his subconscious. yeesh. ]
...You've my apologies. It... you all look like hell. [ to run into a human, not just a human but that one, for all of the grief and horror it caused... that's nightmarish. he should be... way...more anxious....
a pause. ] ...Are you...alright? [ what are you humming. ] I know you said you'd mostly seen the one we saw as odd, but that's a whole other bloody ballgame, and you're... sort of impressive [ weird ] about it, at the moment.
he's also smirking a little because he likes being impressive. but also, since he's pretty sure that has a lot to do with the anxiety (people watching me etc) feeling being gone: ]
That fog thing's pretty bad. It was bearable after a while, but I did kind of have to rip my heart out first.
[ yeah dw it was fine. he reaches absently, touches a hand against his heart. ]
In the Eldan Sanctum. Yeah? You were asked to make a choice - awakened to true magic. [ ... ] Hah. Suppose that's not - I can't say it's that surprising. Good.
[ fucked up as they are, that group of people would've been fucking dead if they didn't, so. homo jaluza was not a fun thing to fight the first time. ]
...Sort of rare, in Euchronia. The same thing happened to me. What archetype?
We probably did it in the first place because it happened to you.
[ it's more of an idle thought since these things are all memories and he doesn't think they were doing anything special besides. dying. before that. ]
[ ugh. he rubs at his chest a little, though - berserker calms some of the present (neurotic) energy, gets a soft huff. ]
...Checks out. [ ... ] You'd like him, probably. Friend of ours awakened to Berserker. He's sort of goofy. Got a big heart, though. [ he's strohl's best friend actually besides vi. ] Loved his brother, too.
[ an exhale outward - all nervous energy. ]
One of the most important moments of my life. [ the awakening, that is. ] ...What'd you think of the human? Face to face, stead of in a simulation.
Is that what it takes for Berserker? Having a sibling?
[ it's a joke, but he's frowning a little at the loved past tense. he doesn't get to linger on that since, you know, awakening talk. ]
Simulation didn't have the weird... darkness that comes with it. [ he moves like he's going to tap his chin except that's his fucked up hand so actually let's just not do that ] It felt like a worst version of that sickness that affected some people in the city.
for the rest, though... oof. yeah. there's a bit of a smile, slightly sympathetic because he'd probably not be nearly so skeeved by humans if it weren't for an unholy amount of trauma and also, that. ] ...The melancholia. Yeah We just learned what that was not all too long ago. It's a manifestation of fear and anxiety - when people are overloaded with it, they become melancholised and lose sight of themselves.
Humans are made entirely of it, and feed off of it. [ ... ] That's what the archetypes are good for, though - embracing it, understanding it's a part of you.
[ he'd figured as much from what he'd witnessed and being the only one who even got the melancholia lore which, frankly, hilarious that he didn't fully share it still, but he nods along to what strohl is saying ]
What are those guys from, anyway? I get that they're all about embracing fear, but...
[ but also he had possibly drowned when he had this weird hallucination so like ]
The archetypes? They're manifestations of the land's true magic. Will's the real expert, I only know what I've picked up on from him, but apparently they were rather common in the old age. There were twelve kings that utilised them, the hero kings of old, to help bring Euchronia to an age of peace - though that was centuries ago.
[ he sets his hand on his heart, absently. ]
The eldans are the ones who have the knowledge on how to utilise them - the place you were probably in when someone spoke to you when you chose the path to awaken was the Eldan Sanctum. I still don't know exactly who that voice was, but... if it was a female voice, it was the same who spoke to all of us, too.
[ he is so ok neat about all this it's going over his head a little because he's like ok ancient history magic stuff. it was magic. cool ]
Yeah, it was a female voice. If Eldans are the only ones who can connect to the land's true magic, why were people so weird about them? And how do you utilize them if you're not Eldan?
Because the Sanctists - that'd be the church - have been trying to suppress the use of true magic for a long time. We only learned this recently, but they're the reason the eldan tribe has been treated so poorly to the point of nonexistence, because the use of true magic connects back to the history of our world, which they've kept hidden.
[ in short it's the government ]
And - anyone can use them, really. It's just that the methods of how to were kept secret. I believe, though, we were able to initially access it because of His Highness, who is an elda.
[ don't ask or you'll yell at him for being comphet
anyway. ]
Because they consider it heretical, but it's more than that. Power underneath it; the Sanctifex, their leader, despised the elda because he wanted to take over the throne and consolidate power, and the King had an eldan heir.
Just the usual. Those in power attempting to crush those who think differently, or those who try to stop them. [ he sounds annoyed at that because. he is, even if the issue itself is a little more complicated. mostly it's because the sanctifex fucking sucks. ]
