[ glances between the two of them... remembers glodell... hmmb. ]
... it's similar in the Sanctuary, worse in the past. Not entirely to do with species, but that is a factor, too. The families in the upper echelons, born into wealth and influence, exert their power over those in even slightly less fortunate circumstances. It once caused civil wars so bad that the capital city split away from the surface. [ so... ] Your captain wanted to change this for your world, is that it?
Figures. [ there's a scoff, derisive and recognising. ] It's the same for us. Clemar and rouissante especially wield it poorly - I've seen many make a damn disgrace of the name of a noble to put others down instead of serve them.
[ and nothing grinds strohl's gears more than that. ]
And you're right. Will's an elda - the tribe that gets the worst of it by far. All of us who work with him come from a variety of different tribes, not brought together by that, but rather by the fact that we all have similar ideals. An actual utopia's damn far out of reach, especially with the mess our home is, but it's worth striving for.
...Funnily, it's how I met Will, actually, the first time - dealing with things like this. [ with a little nostalgia. ] Some rouissante with an attitude was harassing him, so I stepped in to stop it. Almost got into a knockout fist-fight in the middle of the recruitment centre less than fifteen minutes after I enlisted.
Elda are those most similar to what the rest of us call "humans", correct? [ he remembers that explanation from key neuve. ] It takes a revolution to start it. For the Sanctuary, only recently a band of rogue knights led by a man called Youthberk attacked the capital and exposed a lot of the corruption rooted there. His actions were not entirely successful, but they certainly began to destabilise the balance of power, or rather lack thereof.
[ hums neutrally. ]
Change will take a long time, regardless. Finding those with matching ideals is the biggest first step to achieve any goal. [ tilts his head, raising an eyebrow. ] You were able to restrain yourself enough to not reach an actual knockout? I'm surprised. This Will was impressed even without you landing a final blow?
Yeah. Sort of what we're embroiled in the middle of, now. Not so much a revolution, but... well, it's a long, complicated story, with similar roots.
[ the exposure of corruption and all that jazz.
and the latter part - help, he gets a little embarrassed!! flustering and reaching up to rub the back of his neck. ]
I - well, the guard captain showed up and told us to break it up before we even got anywhere. I doubt he was impressed, it wasn't impressive by any means, but we made fast friends after that.
[ strohl just pulled a strohl - he saw an injustice, saw someone trying to bully someone else, and stepped right in to stop it .]
[ I WANT TO STATE FOR THE RECORD THAT GLODELL DOES NOT SUBSCRIBE TO THE TRIBAL HIERARCHY BULLSHIT EITHER because it's one of his like two good qualities lmfao ]
